A Complete Guide to Munnar
By Flyocat Travel Team
Tea estates, viewpoints and the months when the hills are clear rather than closed in by cloud.
Munnar is a view, and views depend on cloud. The estates are beautiful in any weather but the reason most people climb up here is visibility.
1. Stay in the estates, not the town
Munnar town is busy and built up; the estates around it are quiet and green. The short extra drive is worth it every time.
2. Mornings are clearest
Cloud tends to build through the day in the hills. Doing the viewpoints early and the plantations later gets the best of both.
3. Walk rather than drive between viewpoints
Many of the best stretches are footpaths through the estates. Driving from viewpoint to viewpoint misses most of what makes it worth the climb.
4. Two nights, not one
The climb up and back down takes most of two half-days. Two nights leaves one full day actually in the hills.
5. Avoid the heaviest rain
The hills are at their greenest in the wet months and at their least visible. Just after the rains is usually the best compromise.
