A Complete Guide to Udaipur
By Flyocat Travel Team
Lake palaces, sunset viewpoints and where to stay if you want the water on your doorstep.
Udaipur is small enough to walk and pretty enough that most people end up walking the same streets twice. It rewards staying longer than the itinerary says.
1. Stay within walking distance of the water
The old town around the lake is compact and the atmosphere is the point. Staying further out means taxis for every meal.
2. The palace complex needs half a day
The city palace is much larger than it looks from outside. Going early avoids both the heat and the tour groups.
3. Climb for sunset
The hills around the lake give the view the city is known for. A late-afternoon climb is the single best hour of most Udaipur trips.
4. Take a boat once
Seeing the palaces from the water is a different city altogether. It is brief, worth doing, and best late in the day.
5. Pair it with the hills, not another fort
After a few Rajasthan cities the forts blur together. The hill country around Udaipur is a better contrast than another walled town.
