A Complete Guide to Vietnam
By Flyocat Travel Team
Visas, internal flights and a route through the north, centre and south that actually fits.
Vietnam is longer than most itineraries account for. Trying to travel its full length overland in two weeks leaves little time anywhere, so most good routes mix flights with short overland hops.
1. Pick a direction and commit
Running north to south or south to north both work; doubling back does not. Choose one and build the stops along it.
2. Fly the long legs
Internal flights are short and cheap and turn a full travel day into a morning. Save the overland journeys for the stretches that are scenic.
3. Check visa requirements early
Entry rules vary by nationality and change periodically. Confirm what applies to your passport well before booking rather than on arrival.
4. Two weeks suits two regions
Covering all three regions properly takes closer to three weeks. In two, pick two regions and travel them well.
5. Expect three different climates
The weather you pack for in Hanoi is not the weather you will meet in the south. Plan layers for the north even in warm months.
